I love ITS patterns, so when Emily asked me if I’d like to participate in the ITS Blog Tour, I said yes! If you’ve been in Kennis’s group on Facebook, you know how responsive she is to questions. She is one of my favorites to test for because of her attention to detail and because she is a genuinely nice person. I know when I purchase her patterns, the drafting will be high quality and the instructions will be very clear.
I love tops with pleats and draping, but I can’t usually wear them off the rack because they overwhelm my small bust. I was so happy to see this top in testing and being in the ITS Blog Tour gave me an extra push to sew it up.
I made the Brasov Wrap Top in some bamboo/lycra from fabric.com. It looks a lot different than Kennis’s make in cotton/lycra. I love the pleats, especially at the waist.
I made a few changes to the pattern, including adjusting the height for my 5’1″ frame. The pattern tells you to remove height from the bodice below the pleating. Sometimes I do this thing where I think I’m smarter than the designer. It doesn’t always work out so great, lol. I removed a bit of length above the pleating, which affected where the neckline folds over. Oops!
The pattern comes with long sleeves, so I shortened them to 3/4 length. I don’t have much use for long sleeves in the South.

Fitting the Bust
I wanted the blouse to fit my AA bust. Fitting the bust can be a challenge, but I was up to the task. The shoulder pleats are 1 1/4″ long. Kennis recommended lengthening the stitching to 4″, for a AA cup bust. She said this length would almost close up the dart entirely. I stitched mine to 3 5/8″. I might lengthen them again later.
She also recommends going down a size in the bust. Because my fabric was so drapey, I had to go down almost 2 sizes in the bust to get a good fit.
It’s still a bit roomy in the bust, but I think that is the intended fit. This would make a great nursing top!
This is an intermediate level sewing pattern. If you’re ready to take your sewing to the next level, I highly recommend this pattern! There are a more steps than a beginner level sewing pattern, but if you read the instructions carefully, you will have a great top no one will ever guess was ‘me made’.
