Get help with your projects! I will be available to help you with projects from my classes on knits fabrics, pattern adjusting, or anything to do with garment construction. I can help you with patterns we haven’t covered in class, just please email me with what you’d like to work on before class.
Coco Sports Bra
Learn how to sew with knits using the Coc*o Sports Bra by Jalie Patterns for Girls’ and Ladies’ and Plus sizes.. You must know how to use a sewing machine for this class and how to read a pattern. This pattern is fully lined and has options for removable cups.
Please check your hip and bust measurements (not the ‘pattern size’) before purchasing this pattern. The pattern covers: girls’ bust sizes 21”- ladies’ bust sizes 51”. If you fall outside the size chart, please email me and I will provide an alternate pattern: thepetitesewistATgmail dot- com
Sew a Pair of Leggings or Joggers
Saturday July 31st, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm – In Person/Zoom
Make your own pair of leggings! You will learn techniques for working with knits including cutting out, sewing seams, and topstitching for a professional look. Pattern required (Misses XS-5XL). Must know how to use your sewing machine. +
Leggings patterns and fabric can be purchased in person or over the phone at Quilters Corner in Ithaca, NY. We are using the Stella Pattern by Jalie Patterns (girls’ 2T up to ladies’ XL) and the Belmont Leggings by Cashmerette Patterns (plus sizes).
Know Your Knit Fabrics
Tuesday October 5th, 10-12 noon – In Person/Zoom
Have you ever wanted to delve into sewing knits but feel overwhelmed with all of the choices? In this lecture Stephanie will talk about their similarities, differences, and techniques to sew them that are different from sewing woven fabrics. You will learn which knits work for which types of clothing and how to select them for your projects. The class kit (included in price of class) will contain 14 knit samples that you can label for future reference.
How to Make a Pattern Bigger or Smaller
Tuesday October 5th, 1-3 pm, In Person/ zoom
Learn the basics of pattern grading, which is the term for making a pattern bigger or smaller. You will learn a quick and accurate method (and when it can be done) without needing to completely redraft the pattern. All sewing levels welcome. There will be some time at the end of class for help in grading your patterns.
Woven Top: Palermo Top Pattern
Thurs, October 7th and 14th Thursdays 5-8 pm, In person only
Learn to sew a woven top using the Palermo Top by Itch to Stitch This beginner pattern can be sewn with or without the bust gathers and fits lots of body types. You will learn techniques for garment construction, including cutting out, sewing gathers, inserting sleeves, hemming, and more. This pattern covers bust sizes 32”-67”.
You must know how to use a sewing machine to take this class and have a little experience working with patterns.
How to Adjust Pants/Skirt Patterns
Tuesday October 19th, 10-1pm
Are you frustrated with the way your pants and skirts fit? In this class we will go over common adjustments for fit issues including: length adjustments, full/flat seat adjustment, , and length adjustments for a tall or petite height. Learning how to adjust for your unique body will give you confidence to sew your own clothing. You will practice these adjustments on miniature patterns and then mount them on paper for future reference.
How to Adjust the Bodice – Basic Pattern Adjusting for the Upper Body
Monday October 25th, 10-1pm/ In person/Zoom
Are you frustrated with the way your tops fit? In this class we will go over common adjustments for fit issues including: a small or large bust, narrow or wide shoulders, full tummy, and length adjustments for a tall or petite height. Learning how to adjust patterns for your unique body will give you confidence to sew your own clothing. You will practice these adjustments on 1/4 scale patterns.
Intermediate Level – must have experience working with clothing sewing patterns. A 1/4 scale pattern kit is included in price of class.
How to Adjust the Bodice, Part II
Monday, November 1st, 10 AM-1 PM – In Person/Zoom
Build on your basic knowledge of bodice adjustments. Additional adjustments will be demonstrated, as well as dedicated time the second half of class for adjusting your own patterns.
Intermediate level, must have taken part I first.
Pajama Party – Sew with Knits
Tuesday November 2nd, 9:30a -12:30p in person/online
Learn how to sew with knits and make a cozy girls’ or ladies’ pajama set! You will learn techniques for working with knits including cutting out, sewing seams, and topstitching for a professional look. We will use the Jeanne pattern from Jalie. You may sew a pajama top, bottoms, or both, as time allows.
*If you would prefer to sew a t-shirt or leggings, you may choose one of those patterns from the shop.
*If you need a pattern for boys’ or men, please contact the teacher for an alternate pattern. Please check your hip measurement (not the pattern size) before purchasing this pattern. It covers hip sizes up to 54” and bust sizes up to 51”. If your measurements fall outside the chart, please email Stephanie at firstname.lastname@example.org for alternate patterns.
Knits 101: Beanie or Headband
Tuesday December 7th 10a-1pm, in person/online
These are super easy knit projects that are great for gifting and fit in stockings. Patterns fit adults and children. A baby pattern with/without animal ears can also be provided. Learn how to cut out knits and sew with them with confidence. Make one each, or several, for the people in your life.
This class is appropriate for beginners.
