Sewing with Knits 101: Sew a Bralette and Panties
Thursday June 17th and 24th 5-8 pm – In person/Zoom
Sew a bralette and panties using the Julia Pattern by Jalie Patterns. (Girls’ and womens’ sizes: hips 22-54″, bust 21″-51″) Learn the basics of sewing with knits on the sewing machine, including cutting out, sewing seams, inserting foldover elastic.
*If you fall outside the size chart, for your hips or bust, please email me (thepetitesewistATgmailDOTcom) and I will recommend a different pattern. Please note that if you have a large bust, this bralette will not offer much support.
Sew A Woven Top
Two sessions: Tuesday and Wednesday, July 20 and 21, 10 AM-1:30 PM *In Person only*
Learn to sew a woven top using the Sagebrush Top by Friday Pattern Co. This beginner pattern can be sewn with or without the bust gathers and fits lots of body types. You will learn techniques for garment construction, including cutting out, sewing gathers, inserting sleeves, hemming, and more. This pattern covers bust sizes 32”-67”
You must know how to use a sewing machine to take this class and have a little experience working with patterns.
How to Adjust the Bodice – Basic Pattern Adjusting for the Upper Body
Thursday July 1st 5:30-8:30pm – In person/Zoom
Are you frustrated with the way your tops fit? In this class we will go over common adjustments for fit issues including: a small or large bust, narrow or wide shoulders, full tummy, and length adjustments for a tall or petite height. Learning how to adjust patterns for your unique body will give you confidence to sew your own clothing. You will practice these adjustments on 1/4 scale patterns, then we will allow some time at the end to adjust your own patterns, if desired. Intermediate Level – must have experience working with clothing sewing patterns. A 1/4 scale pattern kit is included in price of class.

Knits 101: Sew a Pair of Leggings
Saturday July 31st, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm – In Person/Zoom
Make your own pair of leggings! You will learn techniques for working with knits including cutting out, sewing seams, and topstitching for a professional look. Pattern required (Misses XS-5XL). Must know how to use your sewing machine.
Leggings patterns and fabric can be purchased in person or over the phone at Quilters Corner in Ithaca, NY. We are using the Stella Pattern by Jalie Patterns (girls’ 2T up to ladies’ XL) and the Belmont Leggings by Cashmerette Patterns (plus sizes).
Knits 101: Sew a T-Shirt (series of 2 classes)
Tuesdays, Aug. 3 and 10, 10 AM-1 PM – In Person/Zoom
Make a knit T-shirt while learning tips for sewing with knits, including cutting out, stitching, neckbands and topstitching using a sewing machine. T-Shirt patterns and fabric can be purchased in person or over the phone at Quilters Corner in Ithaca, NY. They have options for child sizes 2T, all the way to ladies’ full bust measurement of 60″.
Sew A Woven Skirt
2 sessions: Tues Aug. 17th and Wed Aug. 18th, 10am – 1:30 pm
*In person only*
In this class we will learn how to sew a skirt using the Fiore Skirt by Closet Core Patterns. Please check your waist measurement (not the pattern size) prior to purchasing. This pattern covers waist sizes 24”-39”.
View A is super simple and great for ultra beginners. The instructor can demonstrate steps for views A & B. If you want to do view C, you may need more time to finish.
Students must know how to use a sewing machine.
Know Your Knit Fabrics
Thursday August 12th 5-7 pm – In Person/Zoom
Have you ever wanted to delve into sewing knits but feel overwhelmed with all of the choices? In this lecture Stephanie will talk about their similarities, differences, and techniques to sew them that are different from sewing woven fabrics. You will learn which knits work for which types of clothing and how to select them for your projects. The class kit (included in price of class) will contain 12+ knit samples that you can label for future reference.
